Subject: The conception of art
Subject: The conception of art
This book is interesting for its chapter on Post Impressionism, Matisse, and Picasso. Written in 1913 it indicates that these artists will be forgotten in the future. A century later, alas for Mr. Poore, these artists are still the darlings of the masses, the museums, and the auction houses. Mr. Poore is an example of the highly educated and very sensitive art lover who was left behind by Modern Art. His own preference was for Meissonier, Bougereau, and Alma-Tadema. This is a sad book because the writer seems to have been steam-rolled by the future.
